Prosper Arts and Music Festival

Becky Conklin
Great art, good music, family fun and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle will be featured at the Prosper Arts and Music Festival on October 3, 2009. Once again the festival returns to the Prosper Town Center located at the corner of SH 289/Preston Road and Broadway for this special one day event.

“We are fortunate to have the support of local businesses, the Prosper Town Center and the Town of Prosper” stated Bill Remington, Prosper Chamber of Commerce Chairman and Owner of Remington Realty Group, “The Prosper Town Center is an excellent location for our festival that features quality art, crafts and some great entertainment. We are extremely excited that the Town of Prosper Police & Fire Departments are joining us for their annual Health & Safety Fair.”

The emphasis on local north Texas artists and crafters is a major concern to the organizers of this festival. Joey Womble of the Prosper Chamber Board and RE/MAX Performance Group-Prosper said “We were blown away by the quality of the artwork and crafts that were featured in last year’s festival. We plan to continue that tradition with only original artwork and crafts. Our goal is to ensure this festival becomes a premier event for our area.” Festival attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists in their booths during the festival.

From holiday decorations to unusual jewelry to investment quality art, there is something to appeal to every member of the family. The Festival showcases the artists of the Oak Point Art Society who will host their annual fall art show on the grounds of the festival. They will be joined by over 50 other talented Texas artists, jewelers and crafters. If you need a great painting to fill that empty wall in your home or wish to start your holiday shopping early, the Prosper Arts and Music Festival is a great place to visit.

If the art scene is not your thing, there is much more to this year’s festival. The Town of Prosper Fire and Police Departments will feature their annual Health and Safety Fair in conjunction with the Prosper Arts & Music Festival. Captain McHone of the Prosper Police Department said “The Town of Prosper Police Department is excited to join this community wide event. We have organized a special 5K run and runners who wish to participate are encouraged to contact me at the Prosper Police Department.”

Chief Ronnie Tucker discussed that “The Town of Prosper Fire Department will have booths that feature fire, bike, medical and home safety. We will have our fire trucks, care flight helicopters and medics onsite during the festival. Families in our area will enjoy seeing how the Town of Prosper Fire Department serves our community. The Prosper Fire Fighters Association will be hosting a special Bar-b-que cook-off event.”

This year’s entertainment will feature local musicians and performance groups. Music will be a variety of country & western (naturally-it’s Texas), rock, gospel and more! A full entertainment line-up will be posted on their festival website shortly. In addition to the great restaurants of the Prosper Town Center, a special food court will be serving tasty treats to tempt your taste buds.

For younger members of the family, the Festival will have a very special and creative Kids Corner. Linda Guthrie, Committee Chair, said “This year’s Kids Corner will be filled with family fun-pony rides, petting zoo, bounce houses, pumpkin bowling, hay rides, barrel train rides and pumpkin painting”. Every member of your family will enjoy a visit to the Festival’s outstanding Kids Corner…and don’t forget it’s free and not just for the kids! Parents will find a unique way to take their kids bowling in the special pumpkin bowling ally.

Free event admission and parking is available on the festival grounds. Additional information about the festival may be found at http://www.prosperartsandmusicfestival.com. If you are a local artist or crafter who would enjoy participating in the festival, please visit their website or call Becky Conklin at 972/342-8420. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.

Bottom line, for wonderful family fun, the Prosper Arts and Music festival will appeal to all members of your family. Please join them on October 3rd from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm at the Prosper Arts and Music Festival in the Prosper Town Center. Don’t forget your wallets-the quality of artwork and crafts at this local festival is amazing! Better yet, your kids will have a great time at the Kids Corner or listening to the entertainment or visiting a Town of Prosper fire truck while you shop.
